Students from Pelham, Fitzwilliam, and Thornton take top honors

CONCORD, NH – Congressman Charles F. Bass (NH-02) today announced the winners of the 2nd Congressional District art competition, "An Artistic Discovery." The winners were announced on Friday night at a reception in downtown Concord.
Shyra Oker-Teed of Pelham, a junior at Pelham High School, won first place in the show, which is the official art competition sponsored annually by the Congressional Art Caucus. Winning pieces are selected from participating Congressional districts across the country and are placed on display in the U.S. Capitol in June for one year.
Bass said, "I congratulate all of the students who participated in this year's competition. They showed an incredible depth of talent and creativity and should be proud of their artistic skills. I'm looking forward to having Shyra's piece hang in the Capitol for New Hampshire visitors to see on their trips to Washington."
Participating in this year's competition were 28 student artists from nine high schools in the Second Congressional District, including Alvirne High School, ConVal High School, Fall Mountain Regional High School, Monadnock Regional High School, Pelham High School, Pembroke Academy, Plymouth Regional High School, Windham High School, and Woodsville High School. The artwork was judged by Ryan Linnehan of Kimball Jenkins School of Art in Concord.

The following students received top honors in the competition:
First Place:
Shyra Oker-Teed of Pelham, a junior at Pelham High School
Watercolors/colored pencil/ink/acrylic entitled "Brain Transfer"
Shyra's piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
Second Place:
Krista Ciaccio of Fitzwilliam, a senior at Monadnock Regional High School
Oil painting entitled "Nocturnal Explorer"
Krista received art classes from a local art school in Concord.
Third Place:
Eliza McKinnon of Thornton, a senior at Plymouth Regional High School
Digital photography entitled "Reputation [does not equal] Character"
Eliza received art classes from a local art school in Concord.
