CONCORD, N.H.—The engineer responsible for the University of New Hampshire's energy and utility systems plans to testify before a Congressional committee.
Paul Chamberlin, assistant vice president of energy and campus development, is testifying Thursday in support of a bill sponsored by New Hampshire Rep. Charles Bass. The bill, dubbed the Smart Energy Act, would direct federal agencies to take steps to better manage energy consumption and would create a plan to double electricity production through the use of combined heat and power and waste heat recovery.
Chamberlin will describe how UNH uses a system that replaces natural gas with gas from a nearby landfill to produce nearly 70 percent of the campus energy.
