Appropriations Deadline for FY13 Submissions Announced

Through the Federal Appropriations process, I work on behalf of municipalities, community groups, and not-for-profit organizations across the district and our state to obtain federal funds to make street improvements, fund Community Health Centers, computerize medical records, improve our water quality, provide after school programs for at-risk youth and protect our nation.

To view the nearly $900 million I have helped to secure through competitive grants and congressionally directed spending for the 2nd Congressional District during my sixteen years in Congress, please visit my Federal Grants page by clicking here.

Despite the Congressional transparency required of congressionally directed spending for projects, President Obama has issued a veto threat earlier this year for any legislation that contains this type of spending. The Republican leadership in the House has decided that they will not accept Member earmark request for Appropriations and other reauthorization legislation which includes these projects.

While it troubles me that I will be unable to request projects that benefit the needs of my district and the interests of the State of Illinois, if there is a specific federal grant program that may be helpful to our communities, I encourage you to submit a Program or Language Request to my office for the 2013 Fiscal Year.

All Fiscal Year 2013 program and language requests must be submitted electronically to my office by Friday, February 24th at 6:00 PM, to be considered.
