(WASHINGTON, DC)– Congressman Gregory W. Meeks released the following statement today in regards to the Senate’s failure to waive budget point of order against the Continuing Extension Act:
“I am disheartened to learn that Republicans blocked an extension of unemployment benefits yet again today in the Senate. After passing trillions of dollars in tax cuts for the über-wealthy elite, it disgusts me that Republicans would block support for middle class families. At a time when residents of New York and citizens across our country are still suffering in the aftermath of the most virulent financial catastrophe since the Great Depression, the Republicans continue to display callous disregard for the plight of ordinary Americans. I call on my Republican colleagues to join with Democrats to support millions of American families in their time of need.”
