Resources in My Office

Congressional Page Program

For more than 100 years, messengers known as pages have served the United States Congress.  Duties consist primarily of delivery of correspondence and legislative material within the Congressional complex, including preparing the chamber for sessions, and carrying bills and amendments to the House floor.

Every session, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives chooses a different group of members of Congress to submit nominations for the Congressional Page Program in Washington, DC. I will be nominating a congressional page for this year's summer session, which runs from Sunday, July 11, 2010, to Friday, August 6, 2010.

Qualified applicants must be at least 16 years old at the start of the program and a rising junior or senior in high school. Applicants must also be a citizen of the United Sates, a full-time resident of the 1st Congressional District, and have at least a 3.0 GPA in core academic subjects.

Completed applications with accompanying documentation must be postmarked by Wednesday, March 31, 2010, and received in Congressman Wu's Oregon office no later than Friday, April 2, 2010.

An independent selection panel will meet during the week of April 5, 2010, to evaluate the applications, interview candidates, and select a nominee.  The nominee will be notified on April 12, 2010, and will have until April 14, 2010, to accept or decline the nomination.

This is a tremendous opportunity for young people to see firsthand how our federal government works on a day-to-day basis, as well as a chance to meet other students from around the country who share their interest in public service.
