Little Rock, AR – Jordan Karpe of Lutheran High School in Pulaski County is the winner of Arkansas's 2nd District 2008 Congressional High School Art Competition.  His grand prize winning entry was a piece entitled "Forethought".  Rachel Cousino is Jordan Karpe’s Art Teacher at Lutheran High School.

Congressman Vic Snyder announced the winner at the opening of the exhibition at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Fine Arts Building on Friday, May 16th.   The annual Congressional High School Art Competition provides one student from each Congressional District in the nation the opportunity to have his or her work displayed in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.

In a cooperative agreement with Congressman Snyder, UALR administered and judged the competition.  Terry Dennis and Morgan James from Work of Art donated custom framing to the grand prize winning artwork display, and Jerry Lemon from Southwest Airlines presented 3 round trip tickets for the grand prize winner to attend the opening of the national exhibit at the Capitol on June 28th in Washington, D.C.

"UALR is always an excellent host of our Congressional Art competition, and we truly appreciate their hard work," said Congressman Vic Snyder. "I was very pleased to see our student winners receive generous donations from Southwest Airlines, Work of Art in Little Rock, and Pyramid Art Books and Custom framing."

The overall winning piece of art will be displayed for one year as part of the national exhibit in the Cannon Tunnel, a pedestrian walkway leading to the U.S. Capitol.  Entries not chosen as the winner will be featured in an exhibit at UALR until June 2nd.
