CONGRESSMAN SALAZAR SECURES $35M PLUS FOR RURAL TRANSPORTATION

$32.4 million for highways, $4.3 million for transit

WASHINGTON, DC- Congressman John T. Salazar (CO-3) obtained more than $35 million in rural transportation funds in today’s Transportation Reauthorization Conference Report. The only Coloradoan on the House Transportation Committee, Salazar worked long and hard across the aisle to address the highway development needs of rural Colorado.

“This transportation report is a victory for rural Colorado,” said Salazar. “At a time when budgets are being slashed across the board, the communities in the Third Congressional District can expect a record number of federal dollars for development of our local highway and transit.”

The Conference Report contains $32.4 million in highway development projects and $4.3 million in transit authorizations for the Third Congressional District.

The Conference Report is expected to be passed tonight and will include the following highway project earmarks obtained by Salazar: $12 million for US-160, East of Wolf Creek Pass, $3.2 million for Dillon Drive Overpass, $6 million for US-50 State Line from Kansas to Pueblo, $5.2 million for the Glenwood Springs South Bridge, and $6 million for US-550 west side arterial project in Montrose.

Salazar’s transit earmarks include: $500,000 for Crested Butte’s Mountain Express, $500,000 for Grand Valley Transit, $250,000 for Pueblo Transit, $750,000 for Roaring Fork Transit Authority, $750,000 for Steamboat Springs, $323,000 for the Town of Telluride, $250,000 for the City of Durango, $700,000 for the City of Aspen, and $300,000 for the Town of Snowmass Village.

“By investing in our infrastructure now, we avoid problems down the line,” said Salazar. “This funding will be a huge boost to economic development for the entire region. Nothing will make me happier than the President signing these rural development funds into law.”
