CONGRESSMAN SALAZAR SECURES $240,000 FOR PUEBLO PARK DEVELOPMENT

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John T. Salazar (CO-3) today announced the passage of $240,000 in funding for parks and recreation facilities at Minnequa Lake and the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk Project. Since March, Salazar has worked with Appropriators in the House and Senate to secure funding for the development of the Bessemer and downtown community.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Pueblo community will receive federal funds to revitalize Pueblo,” said Salazar. “Many of us remember the beauty of Minnequa Lake. These funds will help the city restore the area, providing for a park and new recreation facilities, once again making the Bessemer community a welcome place for families and visitors from throughout Colorado.”

The funds will help the City of Pueblo establish parks and open space facilities at Minnequa Lake and the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk Project. The funds will be used to revitalize an area that was historically a key economic strength for Pueblo.

“Securing federal funding is a key part of the greater community effort to revitalize Pueblo,” said Salazar.

The other project partners include the Arkansas Valley Audubon Society, Bessemer Association for Neighborhood Development, Colorado Division of Wildlife, Pueblo Natural Resources and Environmental Education Council, Pueblo Board of Water Works, Pueblo School District No. 60, Recreation and Leisure Task Force of the 2010 Commission, Rocky Mountain Steel Mills (formerly CF&I), and St. Mary-Corwin Hospital.
