Congressman Salazar announces $137,671 in funding for affordable housing in Delta

Funding to help low-income families find affordable housing option

WASHINGTON, DC – Today U.S. Congressman Salazar announced that $137,671 has been allocated for the Delta Housing Authority. The funding will be used to maintain and upgrade 75 public housing units in Delta County. The funding comes from the federal Housing and Urban Development’s Capital Fund program, which provides funds annually via a formula to approximately 3,200 public housing agencies across the country.

Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on the funding:

“This funding will help provide housing for low-income families, for the disabled and for seniors in places like Delta County. I’m glad to have helped make this funding available and I will continue to provide safe, affordable housing to keep the fabric of our community strong.”

Delta Housing Authority Executive Director Jo Rosenquist,  offered the following comment on the funding:

“We’re one of the few housing authorities in western Colorado that still has public housing and this funding is very important. This grant allows us to maintain this housing so that folks have a nice place to live. Our buildings are ‘70s vintage and there is ongoing sewer repair work that needs to be done. This funding makes us better neighbors and helps residents feel better about where they give.”

Public housing agencies may use Capital Fund grants for development, financing, modernization, and management improvements. The Office of Capital Improvements provides technical assistance to public housing agencies as well as to HUD Field Offices relating to development, financing, modernization, and management improvements of public housing developments. It prepares quarterly reports to Congress on the status of the obligation and expenditure of Capital Fund grants and implements the statutory sanctions for public housing agencies that are in noncompliance with the statutory deadlines.
