WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman John Salazar traveled to the White House to help welcome more than 30 fellow veterans and their family members who are participating in this year’s Wounded Warrior Soldier Ride. He joined Vice President Joe Biden, Dr. Jill Biden, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki in honoring these American heroes. Soldier Ride is a program of the Wounded Warrior Project that provides key rehabilitation opportunities for wounded warriors and raises public awareness for those who have been severely injured during the current conflicts. All participants with a disability or missing a limb or limbs are provided the adaptive equipment customized to their individual needs.

The Soldier Ride began today and will visit the White House, Pentagon and Arlington Cemetery. With the support of the Washington, D.C. sponsor HP, the ride will conclude at the press triangle of the U.S. Capitol Building. The following day, riders will visit Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and Camden Yards, where performance athletic wear outfitter Under Armour will host an event and pep rally at their corporate headquarters and provide the riders complimentary tickets to the day’s Orioles game. The next day, the riders will travel from Andrews Air Force Base to historic Annapolis. Finally, on May 1, the riders will travel through downtown Annapolis and the campus of the United States Naval Academy.

Congressman Salazar offered the following comments on the visit.

“I am honored to have had the opportunity to support our wounded veterans and the Wounded Warriors Project. The men and women participating in the Soldier Ride today demonstrate true courage in the face of adversity. Their passion for life and their commitment to country and cause is an inspiration to all of us.”
