Congressman Salazar announces $700,000 in federal funding for Bayfield Learning Center

WASHINGTON, DC – Today U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced a $500,000 federal loan and $200,000 federal grant for Bayfield Early Education Programs Inc (BEEP). The funding will be used to purchase land and construct a new learning center facility. Bayfield Early Education Programs is a non-profit organization run by a local board of directors made up of parents and professionals who help guide and direct the preschool. Funding for BEEP is provided through Colorado Preschool Programs, Colorado Social Services, private tuition, and donations.

Today Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on the funding:

“There is nothing more important than the education of our children. One my most important jobs in Congress is to make sure that rural areas receive federal funding for education, not just urban areas. I’m glad that this funding is going to go to help further the mission of the Bayfield Early Education Program; that of providing early education for our young people.”

Carol Blatnick, Executive Director of Bayfield Early Education Programs, Inc. offered the following comment on the funding:

“Early Education Programs, the only preschool in Bayfield, is delighted to receive the grant and loan from USDA for the land and construction of our new building.  Due to four moves and a growing enrollment, BEEP started a capital campaign four years ago.  The monies from USDA will truly help to make our dream become a reality!”
