Congressmen Salazar Again Secures Prohibition on Piñon Canyon Expansion
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John Salazar announced today that the prohibition on expanding Piñon Canyon will be included in the FY09 Continuing Resolution expected to be on the House floor later today. Congressman Salazar secured the funding prohibition in the 2009 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill earlier this year, and is now included in the Continuing Resolution.
“Southern Colorado can breathe a deep sigh of relief knowing the time out on expansion will continue through 2009. I am proud of my colleagues for standing up for rural American and Colorado farmers and ranchers,” said Congressman Salazar. “To often in Washington, the little guy gets run over in a rush to judgment. We’ve set up a process and are currently awaiting a GAO review of the Army’s proposal from this summer and until that is complete it is premature to move forward.”
