Encourages Coloradans to participate in the 18 sites in the 3rd District
WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Congressman John T. Salazar recognized National Public Lands Day and encouraged participation at the 18 sites throughout the 3rd Congressional District.
Last year, over 150,000 volunteers worked together to improve our public lands throughout Colorado and the United States. Projects included building trails, removing trash, planting trees and combating invasive plant species.
Since coming to Congress, John has been a champion for Colorado’s public lands. He’s introduced legislation to protect land in the San Juan Mountains and to turn Chimney Rock Archeological Area in Archuleta County into a National Monument. He’s working on legislation to protect the Dolores River and Hermosa Creek area and has led the Colorado Delegation efforts to fight the bark beetle, an invasive species that has killed thousands of acres of Colorado’s splendid forests.
John offered the following comment on National Public Lands Day:
“In Colorado, our public lands are critical to our way of life. They make us who we are. We love to hunt and fish, to hike and camp. And there is nothing I love more than getting on my horse and heading out into the wilderness with one of my sons. I always say I represent the most beautiful Congressional District in the country. I have worked hard to preserve our public lands and encourage everyone to take this opportunity to help preserve and improve Colorado’s most beautiful places.”
