Congressman Salazar announces $4,800,000 in federal funding for the Transportation Technology Center in Pueblo

Providing Colorado jobs, protecting our nation

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced that $4,800,000 in federal funding has been allocated for the Transportation Technology Center in Pueblo. This funding was made available through the 2010 Homeland Security National Training Program. The Transportation Technology Center is a world-class transportation research and testing organization, providing emerging technology solutions for the railway industry throughout North America and the rest of the world. Headquartered near Pueblo, the center is a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium and hosts the Security and Emergency Response Training Center which provides training for private and public emergency response and security organizations that must respond to incidents involving hazardous materials. The Homeland Security National Training Program funds ongoing federal, state, tribal, and local efforts to support the design, development, and delivery of training programs that support the national priorities identified by the Department including those found in the National Preparedness Guidelines.
Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on the federal funding for the Transportation Technology Center:
“This funding keeps Coloradoans working to train our nation’s emergency responders to keep us all safe. There is nothing more important than providing safe, efficient, state-of-the-art transportation for our friends and neighbors across the country. This funding will help TTCI continue its mission of accelerating the use of clean, safe and efficient technologies by railways worldwide and I’m glad to have helped provide it. I will continue to support projects like these, projects that protect and improve our nation and put Coloradoans to work.”
Mike Cook, General Manager of the Transportation Technology Center’s Security and Emergency Response Training Center offered the following comment on the funding:
"TTCI strongly supports FEMA's efforts in keeping our surface transportation safe and secure. We are working with multiple federal agencies to provide the training that meets the first responder needs. This training is good for the nation, good for transportation industry, and good for Colorado," said Mike Cook, General Manager of the Security and
Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC).
