Congressman Salazar announces $139,962 in federal funding to help homeless veterans in Grand Junction

Appropriation will help fellow vets find affordable, stable housing

WASHINGTON, DC – Today U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced that $139,962 in federal funding has been appropriated to help homeless veterans in the Grand Junction area find housing. The funding was made available through the 2010 Omnibus Appropriations Act. Congressman Salazar serves on the House Appropriations Committee which oversees the distribution of federal appropriation funding. The $139,962 is going to the Grand Junction Housing Authority which has partnered with the Grand Junction VA Medical Center to provide rental assistance vouchers under a supportive housing program for homeless veterans.
Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on the funding:
“It breaks my heart that my fellow veterans make up such a large part of the homeless population in America. These are folks who have sacrificed so much for us and we need to do all we can to help them enjoy the health and security they fought to preserve. I’m glad to help provide this funding to the Grand Junction Housing Authority. Armed with these funds they can continue to help our veterans find safe and stable housing.”
Grand Junction Housing Authority Executive Director Jody Kole offered the following comment on the funding:
"We're very pleased to receive these funds which will be used to provide safe, affordable rental housing for homeless veterans transitioning back into civilian life or transitioning out of homelessness. Coupled with counseling and supportive services provided by the VA Medical Center these veterans have the best chance for successful re-entry back into our community."
