Congressman Salazar announces funding to improve two Southern Colorado airports

Monte Vista Municipal Airport and La Junta Municipal Airport get assistance

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced that federal grant funding has been allocated for upgrades to the Monte Vista Municipal Airport and the La Junta Municipal Airport.

In Monte Vista, $ 239,736 in funding will be used to replace the runway lighting system on Runway 2/20 at the Monte Vista Municipal Airport. The runway lights have exceeded their useful life and can no longer be properly maintained. Replacement of the lighting system (phase 2) will preserve the operational safety and efficiency of the airport.

In La Junta, $ 120,687 in federal funds will provide funding to rehabilitate connector Taxiways A1 and A3 at La Junta Municipal Airport. The existing connector Taxiways A1 and A3 surface pavements are deteriorating and showing signs of wear. Rehabilitation (phase II) of these connector taxiways will extend the useful life of the pavements.

On the funding for the airport improvement projects, Congressman Salazar offered the following comment:

“I know this grant funding will help the airports of La Junta and Monte Vista continue their ability to provide safe and efficient air service for pilots, residents and visitors of Southern Colorado,” said Congressman Salazar. “I am proud to have supported these efforts and I will continue to work to provide funding for projects that will improve our infrastructure and strengthen our economy.”
