Congressman Salazar announces Green Job placement program for hard working Coloradoans
“A step toward a more secure Colorado energy economy”
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman John Salazar joined U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis in announcing $3.6 million in federal funding to provide training and certification opportunities for incumbent, newly trained, and unemployed Colorado workers for positions in electrical, electrical power‐line installation and repair, wind and energy auditing, and solar photovoltaic installation. The program proposes to enroll 1,913 program participants across the state and place 80 percent of program participants into unsubsidized employment. The funding comes from a U.S. Department of Labor Energy Training Partnership grant. Funding for the grant comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus bill.
On this funding, Congressman Salazar offered the following statement:
“Coloradans are smart, hard-working people who know how to adapt to the energy needs of the future. I’m glad that this federal funding will help those in need now while building a stronger, safer energy future for our children. This is a step toward a more secure Colorado energy economy and I’m proud to help take it.”
The federally funded training program called “Green Careers for Coloradans” will provide opportunities for incumbent, newly trained, and unemployed construction workers to gain industry recognized certifications, and increase access to apprenticeship programs to address worker shortages in the energy efficient building, renewable electric power, and energy efficiency assessment industries.
