Congressman Salazar brings groups together to discuss future of Wolf Creek development

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman John Salazar hosted a public roundtable discussion on the proposed development at Wolf Creek. The goal of the roundtable was to explore the issues raised by both proponents and opponents, and to begin a dialogue to determine whether any significant consensus exists on the future of Wolf Creek. Participants in the roundtable represented a wide range of interests.

Congressman Salazar opened the meeting with the following statement:

“Today, I have invited many interested parties to this round table meeting to start a dialogue on what, if any, consensus can be reached on the expansion at Wolf Creek… I have taken no position on how we address the issues generated by the proposed development, and I do not endorse any particular approach.”

Following the meeting, Congressman Salazar offered this comment:

“Today’s meeting was a good one. It was good to see folks on all sides of this issue sitting down at the table to hash things out. This is an issue with passionate opponents and proponents. Although no final decisions were made today, it was good to hear the different perspectives.  One key area of agreement today, among both sides, was the need for a full, open and honest NEPA process.  I believe this is a step forward and I look forward to working with my constituents on how best to proceed.  If we can protect our land and water and at the same time bring jobs and economic growth to Southern Colorado then we owe it to ourselves to continue a constructive dialogue.  Working together we can solve any problem.”
