Congressman Salazar announces $460,000 in federal funding for the Independent Life Center

Bringing assistance to Moffatt, Rio Blanco, Routt, Grand and Summit Counties

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced that $460,000 in federal funding has been allocated for the Independent Life Center based in Craig. The Independent Life Center provides work training, health, housing, life skills and supportive services to the disabled of Moffatt, Rio Blanco, Routt, Grand and Summit Counties. The funding comes in the form of a $391,000 loan and a $69,000 grant from the USDA. The funding will be used to purchase the building the center currently leases to continue its services to the disabled. The purchase will also secure the building for a non-profit dental care center that will lease its space from Independent Life Center.

Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on this funding:

There is no mission more noble than providing supportive services to our neighbors, friends and family who are members of our community with disabilities. I honor the mission of the Independent Life Center and I’m glad that this federal funding will help them continue and grow their important work.”

Independent Life Center Executive Director Evelyn Tileston offered the following statement:

I am extremely grateful that the federal government has programs such as the USDA loan program because it is going to put our non-profit organization in a much more positive financial position than we’ve ever been in. We’ll have equity in something. We’ll be able to start new programs and look to the future with more stability. Thanks to Congressman Salazar for his support.”
