CONGRESSMAN SALAZAR ANNOUNCES IMPROVED AIRLINE SERVICE TO PUEBLO MEMORIAL AIRPORT

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Salazar announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation has selected Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd. (Great Lakes) to continue to provide subsidized Essential Air Service (EAS) to Pueblo Memorial Airport at an annual subsidy rate of $1,057,128, for two years, beginning February 1, 2008.

Great Lakes currently serves Pueblo under a code-share program with United Airlines with two non-stop round trips to Denver.  “Under the new contract, Great Lakes will continue to offer two daily non-stops, but under a schedule which will improve service substantially by providing for an overnight in Pueblo, which means a late evening arrival from Denver and an early morning departure to Denver,” Rep. Salazar said.

As the only member on the House Transportation Committee from the Colorado Congressional delegation, Rep. Salazar has fought to maintain federal funding for Essential Air Service to the Pueblo community.

I believe the new flight schedule will allow for better connections for people traveling through Denver,” Rep. Salazar added.  “Essential Air Service in Pueblo also allows travelers to save time by avoiding the drive to Colorado Springs and Denver.
