Chief Chapman says funding will go to improve attacks on high-rise structure fires
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Salazar announced that $425,000 in federal funding he requested to improve the Alamosa Fire Department’s emergency operations capabilities has been approved by the U.S. House of Representatives. The issue now goes to the U.S. Senate for final approval. Alamosa Fire Department Chief Don Chapman says the funding will go toward the purchase of a new 105-foot aerial ladder truck to better access existing and future high-rise structures throughout the San Luis Valley.
Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on the funding:
“This money will be used to help the Alamosa Fire Department continue its goal of providing state-of-the-art fire protection for the citizens of Alamosa and its neighboring communities. There is no goal more noble than protecting the health, safety and welfare of our families, friends and neighbors and it’s my honor to be able to help the Alamosa Fire Department with this cause.”
On the funding, Alamosa Fire Department Chief Don Chapman offered the following statement:
“We’re going to use this funding for the purchase of a 105-foot aerial platform apparatus that will greatly enhance our ability to protect multi-story buildings…We have a shorter ladder truck now but this will be a big improvement…This will really enhance our protection downtown and with other departments throughout the San Luis Valley through mutual aid and we would not be able to acquire it without this assistance.”
