WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. John T. Salazar announced today that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be hosting a listening session on Monday, October 15, 2007 at 6 p.m. in the main lobby of the Pueblo Memorial Airport.
The meeting is to discuss the possible relocation of the day-to-day operation for the Pueblo Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility. Rep. Salazar requested the FAA conduct a public forum in Pueblo to respond to concerns from the community about the TRACON relocation. TRACONs provide radar separation for aircraft and are vital to general aviation pilots.
Officials from the FAA and the Colorado Department of Transportation will be on hand.
“I believe local pilots and interested citizens deserve a chance to have their voices heard before the FAA makes any decisions about relocating the Pueblo Radar facility,” said Rep. Salazar. “As a pilot myself, I know it is critical that the FAA fully understand the impacts any decision to relocate the Pueblo radar facilities will have on local pilots and air traffic. Safety must come first when it relates to air travel."
Rep. Salazar is a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and sits on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and the Aviation Subcommittee.
