Congressman Salazar announces $1,850,000  in funding for a new research facility for Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today Congressman John Salazar announced $1.85 million in federal funding for a new 4,800 square foot research facility for Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Gothic, Colorado as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

The new Research Center will create jobs in the area and allow RMBL to expand its research season, supporting more staff for a longer period of time, and will reduce the cost of conducting field work.  Thousands of scientists have worked at RMBL over the past 82 years.

Congressman Salazar offered the following comment on the funding:

“Funding like this creates jobs, and provides economic development for our local communities.  This funding will create jobs through construction and also allow Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory to expand its research operation housing more scientists for a longer period of time.  I will continue to support projects like these; projects that create economic development throughout Colorado’s Third Congressional district.”

“This is a really exciting time for RMBL,” said Ian Billick, Executive Director.  “This new Research Center will enable RMBL to expand the knowledge base that is critical to managing the healthy ecosystems on which all of our lives depend - clean water, fresh air, and food. What we learn today will have profound implications for future generations, and this investment by American taxpayers in scientific infrastructure will in turn have a tremendous impact on their world.”
