Congressman Salazar asks President Obama to include lessons from Grand Junction in health care discussions

WASHINGTON, DC –In a letter dated September 3, 2009, U.S. Congressman John Salazar officially asked President Obama to consider several aspects of the heralded Grand Junction health care model as the process of health care reform continues. In June, Congressman Salazar invited the President to visit Mesa County to discuss health care issues and to see firsthand the effective system there. Congressman Salazar joined the President for a town hall meeting on health care in Grand Junction on August 15. Following that meeting, Congressman Salazar met with health care officials in the region in an effort to bring successful aspects of that model to the national dialogue.
In a detailed letter to President Obama Congressman Salazar states:
“Although our goal of providing quality, affordable health care for all Americans is clear, it must be done in a manner that does not disrupt the functioning, successful portions of the existing health coverage market. I encourage you to continue to explore the innovative health system that has been developed and nurtured through the tireless efforts and clear vision of the Grand Junction community. I hope that either as a whole or in part this system can serve as a model for national health reform.”

A copy of the letter from Congressman John Salazar to President Obama is included.
