Loretta Kennedy to serve on Rep Salazar’s staff
Washington, DC – Congressman John Salazar today announced changes to his District staff. Loretta Kennedy will leave her post as Pueblo County Commissioner to serve as Regional Director for Southeastern Colorado.
Loretta Kennedy was appointed to the Office of Pueblo County Commissioner in 1999. Elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 2000, she was re-elected for a second term in 2004. During her tenure as a commissioner she helped form the Agricultural Coalition for Tomorrow (ACT) in 2000 – a 13 county coalition to develop a rural economic development plant that focuses on agriculture as an industry; served as a board member of the Pueblo Economic Development Corporation (PEDCo); and also served on the board of the Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District. “Congressman Salazar is dedicated to the same issues that I have focused on in public service, especially the preservation of our water and agricultural lands. It's an honor for me to be offered this job," Kennedy said.
A forty-six year resident of Pueblo County, Kennedy has served the public sector in both local and state government positions for over 32 years. “Loretta has been a tireless advocate for our community for many years. Her expertise on water, transportation issues and agriculture will be a great benefit to my office and the people of the Southeastern Colorado,” Rep Salazar said.
Kennedy gave her formal notice of resignation to the Board of County Commissioners today, to be effective in thirty days. Term limits would prevent Kennedy from seeking another term as County Commissioner. Her position with Rep Salazar will begin at the end of September.
