American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help improve I-70 and Highway 82 access
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman John Salazar announced that $2.5 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will go to safety and capacity improvements at the I-70 Exit 116 interchange in Glenwood Springs, including work on the Grand Avenue Bridge (SH 82). The work is scheduled to begin Monday, August 17. The project is being overseen by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Specifically, the project includes the following: The eastbound I-70 off-ramp will be widened to two lanes to reduce traffic congestion during the morning peak travel period, the I-70 westbound on-ramp will be widened to two lanes to help relieve the afternoon peak travel period congestion and U.S. 6 onto up-valley (southbound) SH 82 will become a double-right turn and a new signal will be installed. In addition, the project will repair and resurface the Grand Avenue Bridge (SH 82).
On the project, Congressman Salazar offered the following comment:
“For those of us who have traveled to and from Glenwood Springs on I-70 and Highway 82 we know that this project will be helpful in alleviating increased road use and maintenance concerns. I’m glad that funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act can help facilitate these goals. I will continue to work to provide necessary funding for projects like this; projects that improve our infrastructure and provide jobs for the hard working people of the Western Slope.”
