Congressman Salazar announces the winner of the 2009 Congressional Art Competition

 
 

 
Nucla resident Marce Mendisco wins with “Colorado Black Bear”

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. John Salazar announced the winner of the 2009 Congressional Art Competition for Colorado’s Third Congressional District.

Marce Mendisco, an 11th grade student at Nucla Jr. /Sr. High School, was selected as this year’s winner.  Mendisco’s chalk pastel entry entitled, “Colorado Black Bear” will be on display for the next year in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol.  Mendisco and his family will attend a special ribbon cutting ceremony and reception in Washington, DC on June 24th.

On Mendisco’s accomplishment, Congressman Salazar offered the following comment:

“Marce has created a beautiful work of art and it will now hang in the Cannon Tunnel where many members of Congress walk each day on their way to take votes. It will bring me joy and pride every time I see “Colorado Black Bear” on make my way to and from the Capitol.” 

The annual Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students.  Every congressional district may select one winner each year.
