Congressman Salazar announces Piñon Canyon Funding Ban to Continue for FY2010

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John Salazar announced that the appropriations funding ban for the Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site in Southern Colorado will continue for FY2010.

Early this morning, the Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies completed its work on the FY2010 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act reporting the act out of committee by voice vote.  There was no opposition and the Piñon Canyon funding ban was preserved for another year.  Congressman Salazar is 3rd most senior member of the subcommittee.

This year’s language states, “Sec. 125.  None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available in this title may be used for any action that is related to or promotes the expansion of the boundaries or size of the Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site, Colorado.”

“I came to Congress to defend agriculture and fight for residents of the 3rd Congressional District,” said Salazar.  “We must continue to protect the interests of landowners in Southern Colorado who have been living under the cloud of expansion for years now.”
