Salazar invites President Obama to Grand Junction, Colorado

Today, Congressman John Salazar invited President Obama to visit Grand Junction, Colorado “to observe an innovative system of healthcare delivery and a model for national reform.”

Later this year, Congress and the President are expected to consider health care reform.  Congressman Salazar went on to add that “Grand Junction has a community of independent physicians, a hospital, and a non-profit HMO which collaborate closely to provide the best quality and cost effective healthcare for their patients. They are connected through an information network which allows them to follow a patient’s lab results, progress notes, and nearly any other clinical information that may be included in a medical record. This network allows for effective diagnosing and follow-up throughout the clinics, hospital, and for the insurer. As the New Yorker essay stated very accurately, this information network made it so “Problems went down. Quality went up.” Through strong community values and collaboration, Grand Junction was found to have the most cost effective delivery of Medicare services in the nation by the Dartmouth Atlas.”
“I am very supportive of your push for healthcare reform so I would like to extend an invitation to you to view the incredibly innovative facilities first-hand in Grand Junction. I feel that the model Grand Junction has provided is a step in the right direction towards healthcare for the nation. Reform is necessary and Grand Junction’s model has been tested and proven to be efficient and effective.”
