Salazar: “House Overturns President’s Misguided Veto of the Farm Bill”

Washington, DC – Today, United States Congressman John T. Salazar released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives voting to override the president’s veto of the Farm Bill by a 316 to 108 margin:

“I have never been more proud to be a member of Congress than I am today.  The House voted to overturn President Bush’s misguided veto just a few hours after the president took out his veto pen.

“The Farm Bill passed overwhelmingly in both the House and Senate thanks to investment in renewable energy and nutrition, major increases in conservation programs, and strong commodity reforms, but President Bush failed to recognize any of that.

“From the Western Slope to the Front Range, this is a bill that is good for Colorado – both for our farmers and ranchers and for consumers who are facing rising prices at the grocery store.

“President Bush may own a ranch but he’s no rancher.  If he were, he wouldn’t have acted so irresponsibly.  The House took the right action today and I am confident the Senate will quickly follow suit.”
