WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John T. Salazar applauded today’s agreement between Xcel Energy and SunPower to build a 17-megawatt AC photovoltaic solar power plant in Alamosa County. According to the announcement, when completed at the end of 2010, the power plant will be the second-largest high-efficiency solar PV power plant in North America.
“Today’s news is very exciting. This is good for Alamosa, good for the San Luis Valley, and good for the State of Colorado,” said Congressman Salazar. “The San Luis Valley can become the national leader in solar energy, and together – utilizing both government and private resources – we can make that reality.”
The 17-megawatt power plant will be built in Alamosa County next to the 8.22-megawatt solar plant built by Xcel and SunEdison in 2007. It is expected to create 200 jobs during construction and will come online next year.
