Salazar says Recovery Bill is “the right choice for a tough time”

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, Congressman John Salazar helped to pass the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill of 2009. The measure passed 244-188.  This package represents a concerted effort to create and save 3 to 4 million jobs, jumpstart the economy, and begin the process of transforming it for the 21st century with $275 billion in economic recovery tax cuts and $550 billion in thoughtful and carefully targeted priority investments with unprecedented accountability measures built in.
Upon the bill’s passage Congressman Salazar offered the following statement:
“Today we voted not only to help jumpstart our existing economy, but to grow and invest in the economy of the future. With this bill we are repairing America’s aging infrastructure, cutting taxes and investing in new energy and the education of a 21st century workforce. As a proud member of the Blue Dog caucus I will never spend taxpayer’s money without significant cause and careful consideration and both were the case with this bill. This is the right choice for a tough time.”
“As a lifelong farmer and rancher I’m no stranger to economic challenges and uncertainty. One of the things I’ve learned over the years is that important decisions should never be made out of fear. My vote today is not cast in fear, it is cast in faith—faith in the ability of the American workforce to weather the tough times and prosper when it’s given the tools and support it needs.”
Funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill of 2009 has the targeted goal of :
• Creating Clean, Efficient, American Energy
• Transforming the Economy with Science and Technology
• Modernizing Roads, Bridges, Transit and Waterways
• Education for the 21st Century
• Tax Cuts to Make Work Pay and Create Jobs
• Lowering Healthcare Costs
