Congressman Salazar announces $21.5 million in grants to improve safety at Telluride Regional Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today Congressman John Salazar announced two U.S. Department of Transportation grants totaling approximately $21.5 million to improve the runway safety area and to acquire an aircraft rescue & fire fighting vehicle for the Telluride Regional Airport.
“I know this funding will help the Telluride airport continue to improve its ability to provide safe and efficient air service for residents and pilots in and around San Miguel County,” said Congressman Salazar. “I am proud to have supported these efforts and I will continue to work to provide necessary funding for projects like these, projects that will improve our infrastructure and strengthen our economy.”
Telluride Regional Airport Manager Rich Nuttall issued the following statement on the grant announcement:
“We’d like to thank Congressman Salazar for his help in attaining these grants. They will help us bring the runway up to existing FAA standards for safety areas and runway grades and replace our 32 year-old crash fire rescue truck. We appreciate the funding and the efforts made by the Congressman.”
