WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today Congressman John Salazar announced that $17 million in federal grant funding has been allocated to improve the runway safety area at the Telluride Regional Airport. This funding is for the third phase of this project.
“This funding will help the Telluride Regional Airport in its goal of providing safe and efficient air service for the communities in and around San Miguel County,” said Congressman Salazar. “As a pilot myself, I am proud to have supported these efforts and I will continue to support projects like these, projects that will improve our infrastructure and strengthen our economy.”
Telluride Regional Airport Manager Rich Nuttall issued the following statement on the grant announcement:
“The $17 million FAA grant will be used for Phase III of the runway/safety area improvements. This grant will allow us to continue upgrading our runway and complete the widening of the runway safety areas, and install the Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) at the end of each runway. These safety improvements are vital to our airport and to the traveling public…we would like to thank Congressman Salazar for his continued and generous support for our Airport.” For detailed information about these grants, contact Mr. Richard Nuttall, Airport Manager, Telluride Regional Airport, Telluride, Colorado, (970)728-5313.
