Congressman Salazar Introduces Resolution to Establish "National Medal of Honor Day" |
||
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman John T. Salazar (CO-3) introduced a bi-partisan resolution this week to designate March 25th as ‘National Medal of Honor Day’. “Leading into Memorial Day, we should make an extra effort to honor those who have served our country,” said Salazar. “The Medal of Honor is a rare honor, awarded to a select few. We should do more to recognize these brave men and women for serving above and beyond the call of duty.” The city of Pueblo, in Salazar’s district, was designated America’s ‘Home of Heroes’ by Congress in 1993 for being the only city in the United States to be home to four Medal of Honor recipients. There are only 123 living Medal of Honor recipients in the United States. “A national Medal of Honor Day is a great way to revive appreciation for the Medal of Honor and for schoolchildren to learn about living heroes,” said Salazar. “With so few living recipients of the Medal of Honor left, this Congress must act to show our appreciation before it’s too late.” Below, is a link to H.
