Congressman John T. Salazar, Third District of Colorado

Service Academies

Each year, I am proud to nominate outstanding young men and women living in the Third Congressional District for admission to one of the nation's service academies. The deadline for application for a service academy nomination is October 1, 2010. Individuals who fail to complete their applications by that date will not be considered.

The nation's four service academies which require nominations are: the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York; and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

To be eligible for an academy appointment, applicants must be:

  • at least 17 years old, but must not have reached their 23rd birthday by July 1 of the year in which they would enter the academy,
  • a U.S. citizen unmarried, and
  • cannot be pregnant or have a legal obligation for the support of a child or other dependent
  • and must be in good health and have a strong desire to serve your country.

You may obtain an application packet by writing an initial letter of request to:
