Congressman John T. Salazar, Third District of Colorado

Issue: Veterans

John Salazar is committed to making sure our nation meets the promises made to veterans, service members, and their families. John believes it is morally wrong to deny promised benefits to families who have lost their loved ones during the war.

As a veteran himself, John's understanding of veterans' issues is grounded in both personal and professional experience.

John Salazar advocates for guaranteed funding for Veteran's Administration's health care system-our servicemen and women should not have to fight budget battles once they return home. The Administration's current budget proposal underfunds VA health care programs by millions and eliminates funding for nursing homes throughout the Third Congressional District.

John is fighting to fully fund VA health care, restore funding for nursing homes, and make it easier for rural veterans to access the health care they were promised.

The Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress

Congressman Salazar wants to make sure the stories of courage from rural Colorado are not forgotten. He encourages veterans and their families to record their stories as part of the national Veterans History Project.

The United States Congress created the Veterans History Project in 2000 as part of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, with the mission of collecting and archiving the personal recollections of U.S. wartime veterans. The Project also collects stories from home front civilians who worked in support of our Armed Forces.
