Congressman John T. Salazar, Third District of Colorado

Issue: Health Care

John Salazar is committed to strengthening our nation’s rural health care system and expanding access to care for residents throughout the Third District of Colorado. John is working in Congress to reign in the spiraling cost of health care and prescription drugs, improve rural health care infrastructure, and identify ways to help small business owners offer employer sponsored health insurance.

Over the years, health care costs have soared, making it harder for the average working family to afford basic health care needs. John is fighting for initiatives that will make health care more affordable, such as allowing the Secretary of Health to negotiate for lower drug prices for Medicare beneficiaries. Too often, families slip into poverty or are forced to declare bankruptcy due to a medical emergency.

John Salazar is also fighting to improve rural health care infrastructure throughout the Third District. He is actively working to increase funding for the successful community health center program and Rural Health Clinics. John also supports innovative programs, such as telemedicine, which bring state of the art medicine to areas that have been historically underserved. Most importantly, John is working to keep doctors and nurses in rural areas by making sure they receive adequate reimbursement rates for the care provided.

As a small business owner, John understands how rising costs make it harder for employers and employees to participate in a system which has become increasingly complex and unaffordable.

John is working towards a comprehensive solution that will provide tax relief for employers who seek to provide this important benefit to employees and their families.
