PALLONE ANNOUNCES $32,712 FEDERAL GRANT
AWARD FOR EDISON SCHOOL SAFETY PROGRAM

Washington, DC --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today announced that Edison has been awarded a school safety resource grant to assist with improving local school safety measures. The grant was awarded through the United States Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing (COPS) Secure Our Schools program, which serves to support efforts to improve security at schools across the nation.

The $32,712 grant will provide Edison Township with the ability to install metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other equipment that can help deter school crime.  The grant can also be used to assist with the cost of security assessments and training.

"I am very pleased that the COPS Program selected Edison as one of the 174 distinguished cities nationwide to receive this school security grant," Pallone said.  "These federal funds will allow Edison to make the necessary updates needed to continue to keep our students safe in the classroom."

“I want to thank Congressman Pallone for securing the federal grant for Edison,” said Mayor Jun Choi. "This funding will help maintain our schools’ safe learning environment."

The COPS Office was created as a result of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. As a component of the Justice Department, the mission of the COPS Office is to advance community policing as an effective strategy in communities’ efforts to improve public safety.
