Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced today that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women has approved $249,849 for Manavi, Incorporated in New Brunswick. Manavi is a New Jersey-based women’s rights organization that works to end all forms of violence against South Asian women living in the U.S.
The funds are provided through the Traditional Housing Assistance Grants for Victims of Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Stalking, or Sexual Assault Program. The program provides assistance to victims who are homeless or in need of transitional housing, including short-term housing assistance and supportive services and emergency shelter services or other crisis intervention services.
"Victims of domestic violence should never be forced to endure abuse due to a lack of safe and secure refuge. This is a critical program that provides victims the opportunity to escape their abusers,” Pallone said. “Manavi and other organizations funded by the Transitional Housing Assistance Grants Program helps victims rebuild their lives by providing counseling and support services and permanent housing options.”
Through a wide variety of programs, Manavi ensures that women of South Asian descent in the U.S can exercise their fundamental right to live a life of dignity that is safe and free from violence. Manavi provides services including individual counseling, legal clinics & referrals, support groups, court & medical accompaniments, and a transitional home.
