PALLONE STATEMENT ON INDICTMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT'S CHIEF OF STAFF I. LEWIS LIBBY JR.

U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement in response to the announcement of a criminal indictment of Vice President Cheney's Chief of Staff I. Lewis Libby:

"The Plame leak was a serious breech of national security.  It shows just how far the Bush White House was willing to go to sell the war in Iraq and to discredit anyone who disagreed with its actions abroad.

"For two years now the Bush White House has stonewalled and misled the American people about the involvement of both Libby and Karl Rove in the leak.  In October 2003, White House press secretary Scott McClellan told reporters that he had talked with both men and they had assured him they were not involved.  This turned out to be a lie.  It's time for the president to hold his staffers accountable for their actions."
