Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, issued the following statement tonight after the U.S. Senate passed H.R. 2, the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Improvements Act of 2009. The New Jersey congressman is the lead sponsor of the legislation in the House.
"With the Senate's action tonight, four million more American children are one step closer to finally receiving quality health care coverage through the Children's Health Insurance Program. I commend my colleagues in the Senate for once again supporting our shared efforts to strengthen CHIP for the future and to ensure a total of 11 million children have access to affordable and quality health care. With new leadership in the White House, we have an extraordinary opportunity to see this legislation finally become law."
