Washington, D.C. --- Today, six New Jersey lawmakers sent the Government Accountability Office (GAO) a four page document from Fort Monmouth outlining how integral C4ISR is to the Global War on Terror. The six lawmakers wanted GAO Comptroller General David M. Walker to have a copy of this document as GAO continues its initial investigation into the closure of Fort Monmouth.
In order to close Fort Monmouth, the Army must certify that such a closure would not disrupt the Global War on Terror. The New Jersey lawmakers said the document clearly shows that closing Fort Monmouth would indeed disrupt the Global War on Terror.
U.S. Reps. Frank Pallone, Jr., Rush Holt, Jim Saxton and Chris Smith and U.S. Sens. Frank R. Lautenberg and Robert Menendez sent Walker the following letter with the four page document.

Dear Comptroller General Walker,
We are writing today to bring to your attention the attached document issued by Fort Monmouth officials to the Department of Defense and the Secretary of the Army outlining how integral the C4ISR mission is to the Global War on Terror. This will be helpful for your ongoing investigation into cost overruns, intentional misrepresentation and deliberate omission of critical data.
This document from Fort Monmouth officials is the first step in the BRAC requirement that the Army prepare a report to Congress on whether closing Fort Monmouth can take place without disruption to the Global War on Terror.
This document states that, "Ongoing operations in support of each component within the total C4ISR mission will require literally thousands of daily interactions supporting theater - all which have the potential for disruption as Team C4ISR realigns onto the Aberdeen Proving Ground."
Additionally, the document notes that, "The projected loss of more than half of [the C4ISR] workforce due to BRAC will result in a loss of expertise not found elsewhere in the Army that will take years to reconstitute."
This document is further evidence that the Army will not be able to make the case that moving C4ISR functions from Fort Monmouth can be accomplished without disruption of the Global War on Terror.
