PALLONE PRAISES PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA'S

CHOICE OF LISA JACKSON AS EPA ADMINISTRATOR

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) issued the following statement today praising President-elect Obama's choice of former New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) commissioner Lisa Jackson as U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator.

"Lisa Jackson is the ideal choice to head our nation's environmental agency.  Having spent 16 years at EPA, Lisa has the experience and the background to hit the ground running to protect our nation's environment.

"As DEP commissioner, Lisa led New Jersey's efforts to combat global warming, better secure our chemical facilities and help protect our shoreline.  She was also instrumental in preventing illegal waste stations from being developed along New Jersey's rail lines.

"President-elect Obama outlined an aggressive environmental agenda during the campaign, and I have no doubt that Lisa will be a strong leader in developing and implementing that agenda.  After fighting the Bush administration for the last eight years, I anxiously await the opportunity to work with Lisa to expedite Superfund cleanups, protect our beaches and begin the process of reversing global warming."
