PALLONE ANNOUNCES FUNDING TO SUPPORT

CHILD CARE FOR WORKING FAMILIES

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health, announced today that New Jersey will receive $34 million in funds over two years for the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF).  The funding is provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in February.

The Child Care and Development Fund will receive $2 billion in Recovery Act funds, which will allow states across the country to support child care services for more families whose children require care while they are working, seeking employment or receiving job training or education.

The funds will be used by states to provide vouchers to families for child care or to provide access to care through contracts with child care centers or invest in quality improvements.  Recovery Act funds will support a wide range of child care providers, including child care centers and home-based programs.

"With economic challenges facing most New Jersey families these days, it is important that parents have every resource available to ensure they can keep working or continue searching for employment," Pallone said.  "The last thing working families need right now is to quit their job because they don't have the ability to pay for child care.  This funding is extremely important, especially at a time when families can not afford to stay home from work."

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act includes key investments in health care that will prevent the loss of health coverage, promote prevention programs and lower health care spending for our nation.  The Obama Administration will make $2.3 billion of ARRA funds available for crucial health and human services programs that help to provide care for children and prevent diseases.
