PALLONE ANNOUNCES $196,080 FEDERAL GRANT

FOR SOUTH AMBOY FIRE DEPARTMENT

Washington, DC --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) today announced that the South Amboy Fire Department has been awarded a $196,080 Federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). The purpose of the AFG program is to award grants directly to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service (EMS) organizations to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel, with respect to fire and fire related hazards.

The $196,080 grant comes from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Preparedness Directorate Office of Grants and Training (G&T) under the Fiscal Year 2006 AFG Program.

"I am very pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has selected the South Amboy Fire Department to receive this federal grant," Pallone said.  "These funds will allow for the purchase of response equipment, personal protective equipment, and vehicles.  This award is a testament to the quality of the South Amboy Fire Department and the service they provide to our community."

Using a competitive process overseen by fire service subject matter experts, AFG grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG program.  Since 2004, AFG has provided a total of almost $2.2 billion to first-responder organizations.
