Senate Fails to Move on 9/11 Legislation

Washington, D.C. – Thursday the Senate failed to move forward with giving final approval on the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act creating a permanent source of funding for first-responders who were at Ground Zero during and after September 11, 2001. The cloture vote of 57-42, failed to garner enough support to end debate on the bill and vote it out of the Senate to the president’s desk, essentially killing the bill for the time being.

Congressman Pallone (NJ-06) released the following statement: “I’m very disappointed the Senate failed to give this important bill a final vote. This vote means hundreds of first-responders and their families face uncertainty on the treatment they will receive for the illnesses they currently have and may develop in the future. We owe it to them to eliminate this uncertainty in their lives and give them the care they deserve. I will continue to work with my colleagues from New York to find a way to move this bill forward.”
