House Approves $1 Million for Long Branch Pier

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., (D-NJ), Friday announced the House of Representatives voted 251-167 to approve the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Act of 2011, which includes $1 million in funding secured by Pallone to complete design and engineering for the Long Branch Pier and Ferry terminal.

“This funding is a long-term investment in jobs and infrastructure for the community,” said Pallone. “The pier will provide much needed jobs during the planning and construction phases of the pier which will be ongoing for the coming years.”

Besides functioning as a high-speed ferry terminal, other planned amenities include retail, restaurants, event space, an outdoor amphitheater, entertainment space, play area, and fishing area. Once completed the ferry terminal will provide a direct link between the Long Branch region and lower Manhattan.  The project is part of a greater effort to reinvigorate the Jersey coastal beach.

Once the Senate approves its version of the legislation, the Senate and House bills will be merged in a conference committee.
