Pallone Secures $1 Million for Long Branch Pier

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr., (D-NJ), Thursday announced approval of $1 million in funding to complete design and engineering for the Long Branch Pier and Ferry terminal. The funding was approved by the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee in the markup of its FY 2011 appropriations bill.

“When it’s completed, this pier will be a tremendous asset to Long Branch and area residents,” said Pallone. “It will improve infrastructure and also be a draw for recreational purposes. Before the pier burned down it was a major attraction for city residents and tourists and a source of income for the city, and I look forward to the day it is finally restored.”

Besides functioning as a high-speed ferry terminal, other planned amenities include retail, restaurants, event space, an outdoor amphitheater, entertainment space, a play area, and fishing area. Once completed, the ferry terminal will provide a direct link between the Long Branch region and lower Manhattan.  The project is part of a greater effort to reinvigorate the Jersey coastal beach.

“The pier will provide much needed construction jobs and many permanent jobs once it’s completed,” added Pallone.

The bill now awaits consideration by the full House Appropriations Committee.
