Pallone: House Panel Approves $800,000 for Monmouth Family,
Social Service Organizations

Washington, D.C. --- U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) announced Wednesday that the House Appropriations Committee preliminarily approved $800,000 in funding which will go to two non-profit organizations in Monmouth County. The organization, 180 Turning Lives Around received $500,000 and the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County received $300,000.  The funding was approved by the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies for Fiscal Year (FY) 2011.

Children and families throughout New Jersey and Monmouth County, will benefit from improved programs at 180 Turning Lives Around. The organization based in Hazlet, will fund prevention and treatment program to those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Expanding art therapy programs and the helpline capacity will improve the center’s ability to help children affected by domestic violence and young adults who have been raped or sexually assaulted.

Pallone also secured funding for the Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County in Asbury Park, which is currently expanding services to serve at risk youth in Long Branch and Red Bank. Funding will be used for start up costs in Long Branch and to expand membership and programming at the Red Bank location.  Both locations will provide safe places for area youth to receive programs and services to improve self confidence, and leadership and career development.

“Facilitating better social and prevention services is one of the most important ways I’m able to serve my constituents,” said Pallone. “Everyday both of these organizations are improving our communities and fulfilling our responsibility to protect and improve the lives of New Jersey’s youth. I will continue to fight for this funding as it moves for further approval in the Appropriations Committee, and for a final vote in the House of Representatives.”

The 180 Turning Lives Around Center serves 140,000 people. The Boys and Girls Club currently serves over 1,200 at risk youth, with the funding it will serve an additional 200 to 300 at risk youth.

The bill will now be considered by the full House Appropriations Committee.
